Protecting Your Business from Voltage Variations

29 September 2008

Voltage is the electrical pressure that causes an electrical current to flow to your home or business. This flow can occasionally be affected by external factors, and result in a "power surge" - a rapid increase in voltage, or a "brown out" - a reduction in voltage. Either of these may damage appliances and equipment beyond your point of supply.

Business customers must take reasonable precautions to minimise any loss or damage caused by voltage variations. Resonable precautions may include data backups, insurance or installing a generator. Our guide to Protecting Your Business from Voltage Variations outlines some of these options.

Each business is different - it is important that you understand which options or devices best suit your needs, and be aware that some precautionary measures involve working with a Registered Electrical Contractor, IT provider, insurance company or other service professional.
